与“星期”名称有关的习语
1、 与Sunday有关的：　

Sunday best , Sunday clothes , Sunday togs , Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes——高档、漂亮的衣裳；盛装。
Sunday run——长距离。
Sunday painter——业余画家。
Sunday punch——（拳击中）最厉害的一击；（对付对手的）杀手锏。
Sunday saint——伪善者。
Sunday saint and Monday sinner——假道学，伪君子。
Sunday letter——（历书上为表示一年之星期日所用的）主日字母。
Sunday school——（教堂中所设的）主日学校。（美）扑克牌戏。
Sunday school truth——众所周知的道理或事实。

Mad Monday ——忙乱的星期一。
Monday morning feeling , Monday feeling——美国人在周末休假后星期一不想工作的那样一种心情。
Monday morning quarterback——放马后炮的人。

3、 与Friday有关的：

Friday——忠仆，随从（源自鲁滨逊漂流记）。
Man Friday——男忠仆。
Girl Friday——得力助手（尤指女秘书）。
Pal Friday——极受信赖的女秘书。
Friday face——神色不佳之人。
Black Friday——不幸的礼拜五，即有任何灾难发生的礼拜五；复活节前之礼拜五（神职人员于此日着黑装）。
Good Friday——耶酥受难节；
T.G.I.F ( Thank God it’s Friday )——报纸上刊出招聘一名能干的女职员的广告。


4、 与Saturday有关的：

Saturday-to-Monday——周末休假；周末的。
Black Saturday——黑色星期六（指工人已预借工资无钱可领的星期六）。
Saturday night special——便于周末作案的小手枪。
Saturday night massacre——星期六夜晚大屠杀（指尼克松任总统期间白宫在1973年10月20日，周六晚上宣布解除水门时间特别检查官考克斯的职务，并解除拒绝把考克斯解职的司法部长理查森和副部长拉克尔职务）。


5、 与“星期”名称有关的几个名谚：

英语十一种“钱”的表达方法
　　初学英语的人，常用expense来表示一切“费用”。其实expense主要是“花费”、“开支”之意，如current expenses“日常开支”，selling expenses“销售费用”，travelling expenses“旅费”等等。在现实生活中，各种“费用”有各种不同的表达法:　

　　一、admission (n.)指入场费。

　　如：admission by ticket only凭票入场

　　二、charge (n.)“原价、要价”。

　　常用复数，主要用于一次性劳务所收取的费用，如服务费、行李超重费、旅馆费等等。

　　如：What are the charges in the hotel?　

　　这家旅馆收费多少？

　　三、cost (n.)本义为“成本”、“原价”。

　　常常用来表示对已取得的货物或劳务所支付的费用。

　　如：The cost of seeing a movie is seven dollars.看一场电影要花七美元。

　　四、fare (n.)指旅客乘公共汽车、出租车、火车、轮船、飞机等所支付的费用。

　　如：All fares, please.　

　　(公共汽车售票员用语)请买票。

　　五、fee (n.)医生、律师或其它专门职业的佣金及会费、手续费、停车费等。

　　如：My lawyer's hourly fee is 130 dollars.　

　　我的律师的佣金是每小时130美元。

　　六、freight (n.)运费，指海运、空运、陆运的费用。

　　如：Who will pay the freight on this order?　

　　谁支付这批定货的运费？

　　七、postage (n.)指邮费。

　　如：How much postage do I need to send this package?寄这个包裹须付多少钱？

　　八、rent (n. 土地、建筑物、房舍、机器等定期的租费。

　　如：The student owed three months’rent for my house.那学生欠我三个月的房租。

　　九、tip (n.)小费。

　　如：I gave my barber a fat tip.　

　　我给理发师优厚的小费。

　　十、toll (n.)道路、桥梁、港口、市场的捐税、通行费及电话费等。

　　如：This month I had to pay 200 yuan toll call.这个月我要缴200元的电话费。

　　十一、tuition (n.)学费。

　　如：John took out a loan to pay his tuition.　

　　约翰贷款交付学费。

　　我们称美国大兵为G.I. (Government Issue) or GI Joe,德国兵或德国佬为Fritzor Kraut，称英国佬为John Bull，日本人为Jap.或Nip，犹太人为Jew都是很不礼貌的称呼。

　　mess around (with)瞎混；Get to work. Don't mess around.赶快工作，别瞎搅和。

黑马 Dark Horse
这个英语成语的汉译是“黑马”，“黑马”这一说法已经被汉语接受了，在汉语的大众媒介中我们也经常会听到“黑马”二字。但从字面上我们却难以弄清它的意义。

原来这个成语最初用于赛马，人们在赌马时，总把赌注下在他们认为最有希望跑第一的马身上，但有时，一匹不为人所注意的马却会出其不意的取胜，这样的一匹马就是dark horse。

此后，这个说法便被用来指在竞赛中出乎意料地取胜的选手，或者是一个有才能，有实力，但一时没有被人发现的人：
